Contests, contests, contests.......

And yet another invitation to a nowhere speck-on-the-map roadside town for an Elvis contest. Someone rents a hall, hires a band (or a DJ), and then 1. charges ETA's to compete in it, 2. charges exhibitors to rent booths, 3. charges the audience to view the contest. The prize? usually a donated belt or some such from some costumer, and maybe a few bucks.

Why do so, so many ETA's do these things? In almost 20 years of performing Elvis shows I haven't figured it out. Am I alone in…
