Hound Dog was originally written for what artist and in what year did they record it? A variety of singers stepped forward to record their interpretations of the song. Can you name any of these artists?

Mmmmm, my sources say 1953, everything else is correct. You even know more artists than me. I'll have to go to the books and check that date though. So, I will get back to you...

Hound Dog although popularized by Elvis was originally recorded by Big Mama Thornton in 1953 as a blues song. Later recordings of this song included The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

It was recorded in 8-13-1952, but not released until August 1953, it was backed on the flip side with "Nightmare". Peacock label, format was a 78 rpm single.
